Fall Webinar Series 2022 | Assessing & Extending the Life of your Turbine-Generator Fleet
As your fleet ages, many issues can arise. MD&A leverages the diverse experience of our engineers and Subject Matter Experts (SME) to help assess & extend the life of your gas turbine-generator or steam turbine-generator fleet. We are your full-service, OEM-alternative!
Join this webinar series by registering for these 3 events below: (you must register for each!)
Webinar 1: Advantages of Balancing a Rotor (Advantages of High-Speed Balancing)
Date/Time: Tues. Sept. 20th, 2022 from 11:00am—12:00pm ET
Speaker: Keith Collins, General Manager – High-Speed Balance
Proper balancing of steam & gas turbine rotors and generator rotors is extremely vital to ensure proper operation that allows the power generation industry to avoid millions of dollars in losses due to lost generation. Traditionally the maintenance of turbine rotors has been done at low speeds, but this can fail to ensure effective operation once returned to high-speed operation. Low-speed balancing may fail to catch balance issues arising from repairs or replacement parts. For generator rotors some turn-to-turn shorts are only detectable at or near rated speed. Once returned to high-speed operation, these faults not previously caught in low-speed testing could cause vibrations leading to a damaging production shutdown. This webinar goes through the advantages of balancing, and options, along with balance standards and vibration measurement. A case study of a high-speed balancing job scope will be reviewed.
- Why Do We Balance? And what is the goal of balancing?
- When to Choose a Low-Speed Balance versus When to Choose a High-Speed Balance and advantages.
- Understand vibration measurement & balance shots.
Webinar 2: Steam Turbine Valve Outage Common Issues
Date/Time: Wed. Sept. 21st, 2022 from 11:00am—12:00pm ET
Speaker: Dean Casey, Operations Manager – Machining Services Division
The following presentation highlights valve outage duration needs, tear down, inspection and repair processes, potential issues you may encounter during your outage, and reassembly, with/without upgraded parts replacements. Three specific case studies that will be discussed are integral strainer basket replacement on Westinghouse style throttle valves, GE control valve seat replacement onsite, steam chest/valve casing repairs vs. replacement.
- Understand the impact of their valve outage and potential risks
- Understand the options of repairs vs. long-term commitment of replacement
- Understand MD&A’s capabilities on how we can assist our customers before and during their outage to mitigate the risk of an extended outage
Webinar 3: Gas Turbine Rotor Life Extension
Date/Time: Thur. Sept. 22nd, 2022 from 11:00am—12:00pm ET
Speaker: Fred Willett, Principal Engineer – Parts Division
Rotors in E and F-class gas turbines produced in the 1990s and early 21st century are approaching the number of starts and hours defined by the OEM as the design service life (aka End-of-Life). Rotor end-of-life is usually governed by but a few of the rotor components – the weak-link components. The remaining rotor components may have additional maintenance intervals of useful life remaining, either as-is or with minor refurbishment. The weak link components and the factors affecting part lives will be reviewed. The MD&A rotor life extension philosophy and replacement part offerings, including a patented design improvement, will be described.
- MD&A has a detailed understanding of what limits gas turbine rotor part lives
- MD&A offers an OEM-caliber alternative to OEM rotor life extension programs
- MD&A is producing high-quality replacement components for E and F-class gas turbine rotors
