Power Plant Fundamentals
Materials
Provided with Your Registration
Most
lecture material for this training seminar is presented in PowerPoint
2000 format. Material was gathered from a variety of contributors,
including many power plants who contributed by allowing us to photograph
disassembled equipment during outages. Therefore, the lecture notes
contain a multitude of photos and graphics supplemented by the use
of drawings with animations that help to better illustrate process
flows and the inner-configuration of machines. The notes represent
the tremendous research that went into developing this high-quality
training program.
Likewise, portions of the seminar are discussed using anecdotal
examples and supplemented with the use of physical models or pieces
of machinery such as turbine buckets and electro-magnets. The emphasis
is on understanding "why" each component is necessary in the cycle
and reinforcing the lessons with demonstrations whenever possible.
In addition, materials presented include black and white films
from the US Naval and National Archives, industry texts and other
published works. A portion of the seminar provides exact sources
of information that we, the presenters, believe are "the best" learning
resources for those who seek to make a career in the field of power
generation. Internationa Standard Book Numbers (ISBN), web sites
and order forms are provided for these sources and included in the
lecture notes. When possible, we also try to take the group on an
evening adventure and tour a nearby facility involved in some aspect
of power production or equipment manufacturing.
